My Story

Ye Lun grew up until 12 in Linfen, Shanxi Province of China , then moved to Shenzhen with his parents. Since the age of 20, he has lived, studied and worked mainly in Hong Kong, the United States and Europe. Currently Ye Lun is a dancer at the Theatre of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Ye Lun started to learn Latin dance/standard dance at the age of 5, and won the champion of Latin Dance in China in the amateur category. He led a naughty childhood and loves to play. He enjoyed computer games and started full-time exposure to computer programming at the age of 15. He learnt VB and C++, and initially aspired to make his own favourite games. But found himself sitting in front of the computer full-time , the body feeling unease, so he returned to dance.

The return of dance was Influenced by the experience of programming, he started to interpret movements as "languages” and began to study various body languages, including Poping (Street dance), Tai Chi, Chinese folk dance, Chinese classical dance, contemporary dance and Ballet.

At high-school ,he was major in history and geography, this provided him a a greater perspective to understand time and space, which are also the key elements in dance. Before graduation, he also made his own team, Inkoderz, and choreographed a small piece of work that fused Tai Chi and street dance at the age of 18.

Then he entered the Department of Choreography at the University of Shenzhen. At the age of 19, he wanted to more focus on contemporary dance, then the following year he dropped out of Shenzhen University and entered the Contemporary Dance Department of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), where he was continuously awarded with the Hong Kong Government Scholarship for four years. He also toured with the Hong Kong Dance Company in Macao, also studied in the United States twice during Bachelor period, participating in the 80th American Dance Festival, and attending SUNY Purcahse in New York for exchange.

After graduation, he worked with the Beijing LDTX Dance Company and the Beijing Dance Theater, and the following year he received six postgraduate offers worldwide, including New York University, California Institute of the Arts, Prague Conservatory of Music and Dance, Bath Spa University and University of Roehampton. He finally chose studying postgraduate program of choreography (I.C.E. Program) at the Salzburg Experimental Dance Academy (SEAD) in Austria as the first graduated student from mainland China. After moving to Europe, He worked at the Theater Landesbühne Sachsen, Mainfranken Theater Würzburg in Germany, Bühne Bern in Switzerland.

Ye Lun started choreographic practise since 18. His choregoraphy Bau im Fluss was awarded Outstanding Performer in Copenhagen International Choreography Competition 2022. On the one hand, he is exploring sincere, playful also serious ( ernst ) body language, while at the same time searching for the boundaries of different body language styles and the possibility of fusion. On the other hand, Ye Lun is interested in the combination of dance and theatre. His aesthetic ideal is that his works can travel between the bilateral aesthetic structures of East and West.
